Halfway home
POSTED ON Thursday, June 20, 2013 AT 8:00 AM \\
Late post because I've been feeling very tired/lazy/unmotivated the past couple of days ever since I finished my blocks on Monday. They were okkaayy. I could have done better in psych had I studied more pharm. Thankfully, the class averaged a 75 on the micro exam, which means that the next block will not be cumulative. And for path, the class averaged an 80 just like last time.

End of Block 2 also marks the halfway point of the semester!~

We have a guest lecturer covering Neoplasia in Pathology. He used to teach at Harvard before he retired. His powerpoints goes into a lot of detail, more than we are used to, and he really knows his stuff.
We're starting Immunology in Micro, which is totally new stuff for me. Next two weeks of micro are going to be intense!

In other news, I've been having to make trips to the store almost every day. On Monday I went to the grocery store just to buy fruits and veggies. I came home with two bagfuls of pears, apples, carrots and yogurt (I'm trying to eat healthier). Not only were they heavy but I had to walk up hill to get to my place. Tomorrow I will have to return to buy the rest of my groceries.

This weekend I have to make sure to do the following:
- read ahead for Immuno
- review Neoplasia (watch Pathoma videos, read BRS and do Robbins and Webpath questions)
- read BRS psychology

Meanwhile, I have a lot of cleaning to do, bleh!

Potluck
POSTED ON Tuesday, June 11, 2013 AT 8:14 PM \\
So on Sunday afternoon my neighbour came over and we baked brownies using a pre-made brownie mix. For one of the brownie mixtures we added a layer of oreo cookies to the bottom. It turned out amazing!

There was so much food at the potluck. There was biryani rice, tomato rice, creamy pasta, lasagna, potato salad, fries, satay chicken, noodles, cookies, fruit pies, cakes, puddings. And it was all made by students and their families. There were prizes for the best dish and the best dessert. The apple caramel cake took the prize for best dessert. I was told that my oreo brownies came in second, which surprised me. I went back for seconds and thirds and fourths. I ate so much that when I got home I just laid on my bed for a while. And then I worked out.

In the evening I tuned in to the season finale of Game of Thrones. It was alright. A little disappointed by the lack of a cliff-hanger at the end. I was SO hoping for a glimpse of Lady Stoneheart, but I guess that would have been asking for too much. I can't believe I have NINE months to wait before Season 4 premiers. That's so far away! In nine months I'll be almost done Basic Sciences! Ah!!

As for TODAY, well...
We had our micro quiz on virology. It was horrible. The class averaged 60, and the professor soundly and thoroughly chewed us out for not knowing anything that he had taught us. He said we should "pray to God that we pass the block exam" because he's going to make it super hard.

Now I'm very worried about micro. Psych as well because of the sheer amount of information that the professor has been throwing at us. Thankfully path is our saving grace at the moment. Or so we hope. We'll see. Blocks next Monday! Eek!

Trap
POSTED ON Saturday, June 8, 2013 AT 12:23 PM \\

FYI the title of the post is related to a music video (see below).

So I got a little daring and made sweet and sour chicken! I was surprised that it was so easy to make (I did cheat a little by using a pre-made sweet and sour sauce, but everything else including the chicken I had to cut up).

I like mixing my rice with everything!

It tasted okay. But nothing I cook tastes as good as what restaurants serve, or what my mom makes at home (insert drawn-out sigh here).

Our micro prof keeps us on our toes everyday because any day he could give us a quiz. And if the class doesn't score an average above 70 on it then he threatens to make the block exam super hard. Yikes! We're currently learning virology in micro. I never knew there were so many different families and subtypes of viruses. EIGHT types of herpesviruses, plus all the hepatitis viruses A, B, C, D, E, G… to name just a few of them!!

Can't wait for tomorrow's season finale of Game of Thrones it's gonna be SO good I just know it!!! Also tomorrow is a pot-luck happening at school in the afternoon. My neighbour and I are planning on baking brownies, with a hidden surprise! Gonna be my first time baking brownies, hoping it'll turn out alright.

Also, I'm currently addicted to this song:

The singer (Henry Lau) used to attend my high school. He used to perform violin solos on stage at our talent shows before he got an opportunity to go to Korea and then a few years later he's a total kpop heart-throb and has his own music video and album. Yay I have a Facebook friend who's a celebrity lol!

Here's an earlier video of him playing the violin:

Crazy talented dude!
